Peggilee Wupperman, PhD, is a Professor of Psychology at John Jay College of the City University of New York and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. Her work focuses on improving treatments for dysregulated emotions and behaviors, including addiction, self-destructive actions, and aggression. She developed Mindfulness and Modification Therapy (MMT), a transdiagnostic approach published in her book Treating Impulsive, Addictive, and Self-Destructive Behaviors (Guilford Press, 2019), which earned a second-place award in the American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Awards.
Education: PhD in Psychology (2006) from the University of North Texas, followed by postdoctoral training at Yale University School of Medicine. She also holds an MS in Psychology (2003) and completed a predoctoral internship at Yale (2006).
Research Interests: Emotion dysregulation, mindfulness-based interventions, MMT development, and behavioral treatments for substance use and aggression. Her lab, the Mindfulness and Modification Lab, explores therapeutic strategies to help clients align actions with personal values while managing emotional triggers.
Publications: Over 15 peer-reviewed articles since 2001, focusing on mindfulness applications, emotion regulation, and behavioral dysregulation. Her work spans journals like Journal of Clinical Psychology and Personality and Individual Differences.
