Pawel Bukowski is a Lecturer in Economics at University College London (UCL) and the Polish Academy of Sciences. He holds academic positions at the London School of Economics (LSE), including Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Economic Performance and Faculty Associate at the International Inequalities Institute. His research focuses on labor market inequalities, economic geography, and historical economic trends in Central and Eastern Europe. He has authored influential works on income inequality and co-founded the expert group 'Dobrobyt na Pokolenia' (Prosperity for Generations).
Education: Holds a doctoral degree from the Department of Economics. Research interests include labor economics, spatial economics, and the economics of education. His recent book Nierówności po polsku won the Marcin Król Prize 2025 and the Scientific Economic Book of the Year 2024.
Grants and Funding: Principal investigator on Open Research Area (ORA), ESRC Rebuilding Macroeconomics, and LSE Research and Impact Fund projects. Active in policy-oriented research through roles like Senior Expert at the European Expert Network on Economics of Education.
Labs/Teams: Co-director of UCL's Centre for Study on Places, Identities and Memories (PIMs). Member of Concilium Civitas, a network of Polish social scientists.
