Paweł Kaczmarczyk

Paweł Kaczmarczyk is a Professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, University of Warsaw, holding a position in the Department of Population Economics and Demography. Since 2016, he has served as the Director of the Centre of Migration Research (CMR) at the University of Warsaw, where he has been actively involved since 1997, beginning with groundbreaking ethnosurveys on Polish migration patterns. He is also a member of the Management Committee of the Initiative for Excellence – Research University (IDUB) program and coordinator of the Centre of Excellence in Social Sciences (CESS).

Professor Kaczmarczyk's research primarily focuses on the economics of migration, with particular emphasis on international labor migration, migration's relationship with labor markets, and migration policy formulation. His work has evolved from early studies on Polish emigration to contemporary analyses of refugee flows, particularly regarding Ukrainian migration to Poland. His research methodology combines economic analysis with sociological perspectives, often employing innovative survey techniques including the ethnosurvey method he helped pioneer.

His publication record demonstrates a clear progression from studying Polish emigration post-EU accession toward analyzing immigration to Poland, reflecting the country's transition from a source to a destination country for migrants. Recent work heavily focuses on the Ukrainian refugee crisis, examining integration challenges, labor market participation, and policy responses.

Professor Kaczmarczyk actively participates in policy discussions, having previously served on the Strategic Advisory Board to the Prime Minister of Poland. He maintains strong connections with international migration research networks including IMISCOE and collaborates with major international organizations such as the World Bank, OECD, and IZA.

His research is organized through multiple projects, with recent work addressing European migration challenges, Ukrainian refugee integration, labor mobility, and migration policy development in Central and Eastern Europe.
