Dr. Paula Holcomb serves as Professor of Music, Director of Bands, and Area Head of Instrumental Conducting at the State University of New York at Fredonia. She directs the Wind Ensemble and oversees the band and instrumental conducting program, having developed the internationally recognized Masters of Music in Conducting degree. Previously, she led the band program at Central College in Iowa, where ensembles toured internationally and performed at Lincoln Center. As a hornist, she performed with artists including Chuck Mangione and Doc Severinsen.

Her research and teaching focus on wind repertoire, conducting pedagogy, and ensemble development. Dr. Holcomb has conducted ensembles in 42 U.S. states and numerous countries, presenting conducting symposiums globally. She initiated the International Conducting Symposium at Sibelius Academy and has commissioned new works for wind ensemble, resulting in the Fredonia Wind Ensemble CD featuring collaborations with principal players from the Buffalo Philharmonic and Detroit Symphony.

She has served as Vice President of the Conductors Guild, chaired the 2012 Chicago Conference, and held leadership roles in the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles. Dr. Holcomb mentors graduate students in the MM in Conducting program and has organized international tours, including a ten-day Wind Ensemble Tour of China. The Fredonia Wind Ensemble, under her direction, has become a model for innovative programming and international collaboration.
