Michael Golemo serves as the Director of Bands and University Professor of Music at Iowa State University since 1999. He previously chaired the Department of Music & Theatre (2005–2017). His roles include conducting the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, teaching conducting courses, and overseeing eleven bands. He holds a DMA in Wind Conducting from Michigan State University (1994), and degrees from Northwestern University.

His research interests focus on music education, wind conducting, and ensemble performance. He has led international tours with Iowa State’s Wind Ensemble across Europe and conducted at major venues like Chicago’s Orchestra Hall. His compositions and arrangements (over 400 works) are published by prominent firms and performed globally.
Dr. Golemo’s awards include Iowa State’s Superior Service to Alumni Award and Kappa Kappa Psi’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service to Music Medal. He actively contributes to music organizations, including the American Bandmasters Association and John Philip Sousa Foundation.
He advises and oversees Iowa State’s music programs, leads the Ames Municipal Band, and has served in leadership roles for national music associations. His career combines academic leadership, performance excellence, and community engagement.
