Paula Cowan holds the academic rank of Dr Reader at the School of Education and Social Sciences. She serves on the National Holocaust Centre’s Academic Advisory Board (since 2015), is an Elected Council Member of the General Teaching Council for Scotland (since 2014), and acts as a UK delegate for the International Holocaust Research Alliance (since 2009). Her research focuses on Holocaust education, citizenship, and primary education, emphasizing curriculum development and policy implementation in Scottish schools. She has published extensively on integrating Holocaust studies into educational frameworks, parental perspectives on children’s Holocaust education, and inclusive citizenship guidelines for minority groups.
Dr Cowan received the Outstanding Achievement Award in 2015 for contributions to Holocaust Education. Her external engagements include invited lectures on Holocaust pedagogy and keynote participation in conferences such as the 2016 SERA Annual Conference. Her work bridges theoretical research with practical educational strategies, addressing contemporary challenges in intercultural and historical education.
