Moira Godfrey is a Lecturer at the School of Education and Social Sciences, University of the West of Scotland, since 2016. She is concurrently a PhD candidate at the University of Aberdeen, researching mindfulness and compassion training for marginalized groups. With over 30 years in health and social care, she holds SSSC registration as a social worker and practice educator. Her expertise focuses on integrating mindfulness and compassion into social work practice to enhance reflective skills, staff resilience, and client-centered care.
She previously worked in social work roles in South London and Scotland, specializing in youth transitions and elderly care. As a qualified mindfulness teacher (UK Network registered), she bridges clinical practice and educational development. Professional activities include trustee roles with the Scottish Organisation for Practice Teaching and presentations at conferences like the Aberdeen City Council Practice Learning Conference (2016) and Scottish Organisation for Practice Teaching Annual Conferences (2015–2016).
Her research emphasizes practical applications of mindfulness in social work education and resilience-building for practitioners. Collaborations with Local Authorities and NHS institutions underpin her work.
