Maura Daly is a Lecturer (Teaching and Research) in the Department of Education and Society at the University of Dundee. She holds a Ph.D. from Glasgow Caledonian University and has over 30 years of experience in social work, spanning residential care, generic social work, and leadership roles in the voluntary sector. Her research focuses on social work practice, professional identity, and the experiences of newly qualified social workers. She leads modules in practice learning, research methods, and change management.
- Education: Ph.D. (Glasgow Caledonian, 2018), MBA (Glasgow Caledonian, 2012), Diploma in Social Work (Edinburgh, 1989), B.Sc. (Dublin, 1984).
Research Interests: Maura’s work explores social work identity, regulation, and the impact of crises like COVID-19 on early career practitioners. She co-leads studies funded by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), investigating longitudinal outcomes for newly qualified social workers. Her recent projects emphasize perinatal mental health and migrant integration, employing action research and autoethnography.
Grants & Collaborations: Recent funding includes an Institute for Social Science Research grant (2023) on perinatal mental health and an SSSC study on pandemic impacts. She collaborates with researchers on topics ranging from asylum seeker care to policy reform.
Labs/Teams: Convenor of practice learning in social work at Dundee, contributing to curriculum development and student supervision.
