Paul Thomas is an Adjunct Research Professor in Carleton University's Department of Political Science within the Faculty of Public and Global Affairs, and Director of the Parliamentary Internship Programme. His joint appointment bridges academic research and parliamentary practice through the Canadian House of Commons and Canadian Political Science Association partnership.
With expertise developed over nearly two decades studying British and Canadian politics, his research examines legislative processes, parliamentary reform, and party dynamics. Major publications analyze electoral candidate selection, executive-legislative relations, and religious dimensions of party politics.
His publications show consistent focus on parliamentary effectiveness, electoral reform, and the intersection of religion with political messaging in Canada. Recent work includes comparative analyses of pandemic-era parliamentary operations and candidate selection processes.
Dr. Thomas previously served as Senior Research Associate at the Samara Centre for Democracy, advising legislative bodies including the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia on member roles and institutional design.
