معرفی
Paul Tett is a Professor and Reader in Coastal Ecosystems at SAMS UHI. He holds a Master of Arts in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Marine Bioluminescence from the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on phytoplankton ecology, marine physical processes, and their applications to eutrophication and ecosystem health. Tett currently leads the Laurence Mee Centre for Society and the Sea, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to marine conservation and sustainable resource management.
His work has influenced UK marine policy, particularly through Defra’s approach under the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). Key research interests include phytoplankton dynamics, pelagic ecosystem integrity, and integrating policy with environmental science. Recent studies address offshore renewable energy impacts, low-trophic aquaculture, and marine spatial planning.
Tett has authored over 165 publications, including influential articles in Marine Policy, Ecological Indicators, and Marine Pollution Bulletin. He has advised on Scottish Government marine planning and participated in public engagement initiatives. Media highlights include commentary on Scotland’s turquoise sea discoloration linked to marine algae blooms.
His research collaborations span global institutions, with notable contributions to Hong Kong’s marine water quality assessments and Atlantic Basin aquaculture policies. Tett’s work emphasizes bridging scientific evidence with regulatory frameworks to ensure sustainable ocean governance.
