Dr. Carolin Paul is a marine researcher at the Leibnism Institute for Baltic Sea Research since 2019, specializing in phytoplankton ecology and climate change impacts on marine ecosystems. Her work combines monitoring, mesocosm experiments, and feeding studies to investigate how warming and acidification affect bloom dynamics, community composition, and trophic interactions in the Baltic Sea.
- Biology Diploma (University of Rostock, 2011)
- PhD in Marine Sciences (GEOMAR/Christian-Albrechts University Kiel, 2016)
Research focuses on climate change effects (warming, acidification) on phytoplankton, including zooplankton grazing dynamics and nutrient-phytoplankton relationships. Her climate change experiments span from laboratory cultures to large-scale field studies. Key projects include:
- DFG-funded spring bloom control study (2019-2025)
- UBA-led pelagic habitat monitoring (2023-2026)
- BIOACID II (2012-2015) and ID-NEP (2022) collaborations
Scientific awards include the Women-Back-to-Research Scholarship (2017-2018). Publications reveal consistent focus on phytoplankton community shifts, CO2-temperature interactions, and marine trophic relationships. She actively participates in ASLO and BIOACID conferences, with recent work analyzing long-term bloom dynamics and multi-trophic responses.
