معرفی
Dr. Jan Taucher is a leading researcher at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany. He heads the Plankton Imaging Lab and the ERC Consolidator project SEA-THROUGH, focusing on in situ imaging technology for deep-sea vertical migration studies. His research integrates Marine Biogeochemistry and Ocean Acidification to address climate change impacts on marine ecosystems.
- PhD in 2013 from GEOMAR
- DAAD PhD fellowship at University of California Santa Barbara (2012-2013)
- Leadership in BMBF, EU Horizon 2020, and Helmholtz projects
Research Focus Areas
Dr. Taucher specializes in plankton ecology, vertical migration dynamics, and ocean-based carbon dioxide removal. His work combines experimental mesocosm studies with 1-D to 3-D ecosystem modeling to analyze interactions between phytoplankton physiology, food web structures, and biogeochemical cycles.
Scientific Contributions
- Developed the patented All-in-Focus plankton imaging method (2022)
- Co-leader of the Ocean artUP ERC project on artificial upwelling (2017-2022)
- Key publications in Nature, Nature Climate Change, and Global Change Biology
His deep-learning super-resolution imaging (SuperPI) and Digital Twin Ocean (DIPLO) projects advance marine biodiversity monitoring. Dr. Taucher's awards include the GEOMAR Innovation Award (2020) and Werner-Petersen Foundation PhD Thesis Award (2014).
