معرفی
Callum Whyte is a Phytoplankton Ecologist and Researcher at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), part of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). He serves as Deputy Manager of the FSA monitoring programme for toxin-producing plankton in Scottish shellfish production areas and Deputy Radiation Protection Supervisor. His work focuses on harmful algal blooms (HABs), their causes, distribution, and prediction, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to marine conservation and sustainable aquaculture.
Research interests include the ecological and environmental drivers of HABs, toxin-producing microplankton species, and their impact on shellfish aquaculture. He collaborates on projects such as the SAIC Plankton Predict initiative, aiming to enhance HAB forecasting through operational modeling and in situ data integration.
Publications highlight advancements in HAB monitoring methodologies, climate change impacts on plankton dynamics, and policy recommendations for marine planning. His work bridges scientific research with practical applications, supporting aquaculture sustainability and environmental management.
