Paul Stock is an Associate Professor of Sociology and affiliated with the Environmental Studies Program at the University of Kansas. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Colorado State University (2009), an M.A. from Illinois State University (2004), and a B.A. from Truman State University (2001). His research focuses on environmental and rural sociology, particularly farmers' responses to global economic changes, environmental ethics, and agricultural social movements. He explores themes like technological morality, climate grief among older adults, and the cultural symbolism of farming in policy contexts.
Teaching interests include environment, food systems, rural sociology, and collaboration in agricultural contexts. His notable publications include The Good Farmer: Culture and Identity in Food and Agriculture (2020) and New Farmers 2014/2018 (2019). His work has been recognized with dual awards from the American Institute for Graphic Artists for book design (2019). Research highlights include studies on green burials, food cooperatives, and the sociology of environmental morality.
