Maud Macrory Powell is an Associate Professor (Practice) at Oregon State University's Department of Horticulture, affiliated with the College of Agricultural Sciences. She leads the Small Farms Program and Extension work in Jackson County, focusing on sustainable agriculture, rural community development, and farm management education. Her roles include coordinating the Siskiyou Sustainable Cooperative's Community Supported Agriculture Program and advising Wolf Gulch Farm, a diversified vegetable and seed farm she co-owns. Powell holds an M.A. in Environment and Community Studies from Antioch University Seattle and a B.A. in Comparative Religion from Swarthmore College.
Her research emphasizes small farm viability, farmer networks, and climate resilience. Notable projects include analyzing cannabis production impacts on food systems and developing tools for farmer-to-farmer knowledge exchange. She has authored over 30 publications, including guides on pricing farm products, reishi mushroom cultivation, and whole-farm management systems. Powell's outreach efforts include online courses like 'Growing Farms: Successful Whole Farm Management' and the 'Climate Stress and Grief' resilience toolkit.
