Paul Richards is a Professor of Bass Clarinet (second or related study) at the Royal College of Music (RCM). He has an extensive orchestral career, performing with leading London orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), Philharmonia, and London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO). Since 1997, he has served as Principal Bass Clarinet of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, succeeding Stephen Trier, with whom he studied. Richards is a founding member of the Thurston Clarinet Quartet, renowned for recitals, broadcasts, and recordings for ASV.
His career combines performance with teaching, focusing on bass clarinet specialization and woodwind performance. He studied at the RCM and has maintained a dual focus on orchestral work and chamber music throughout his career.
