Barnaby Robson is a Professor of modern and early clarinet at the Royal College of Music (RCM), affiliated with the Faculty of Historical Performance and the Woodwind department. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Juilliard School as a Fulbright Scholar, where he won the Concerto Prize performing Copland’s Clarinet Concerto. He served as principal clarinet of the Philharmonia Orchestra (1998–2013) and joined the English National Opera Orchestra in 2014.
As a chamber musician, he co-founded the Zanfonia Trio and collaborates with groups like London Winds, Belcea Quartet, and Thomas Adès. His recordings span Philharmonia CDs, Vivaldi wind concerti (Academy of Ancient Music), and Mozart’s Serenade in B flat ‘Thirteen Wind’ (Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment). He teaches at RCM and has conducted masterclasses globally.
