Paul Reller is an Associate Professor of Composition at the University of South Florida's School of Music, where he has served since 1990 as Director of SYCOM (Systems Complex for the Recording and Performing Arts) Electronic Music Studio. His academic journey includes a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Minnesota and a Master's Degree from the Eastman School of Music.
Professor Reller's creative work spans electronic music composition, acoustic composition, and historical musicology with specialized focus on blues and rock music. He extends his expertise to theatrical composition through collaborations with Jobsite Theater and USF's Department of Theater and Dance, where he served as composer-in-residence during 1999-2000.
His notable achievements include the Harold Hanson Large Ensemble Prize, Bearns Prize, BMI Student Composer Award, and two ASCAP awards. Professor Reller co-founded the Bonk Festival of New Music, where his works have been performed by prominent artists including Margaret Lancaster and Conrad Harris.
As an educator, he teaches electronic music, acoustic composition, and History of Blues and Rock Music courses while directing SYCOM's facilities. His creative output includes the 2002 release 'The Big Vibration', production work for G.G. Allin and Tiny Tim, and three albums with his band Clang where he served as writer and vocalist.
Through SYCOM Electronic Music Studio, Professor Reller provides students with advanced resources for electronic music production and performance, fostering innovation in contemporary music creation at USF.
