Howie Kenty

Howie Kenty is an Assistant Professor of Studio Composition at Purchase College's Conservatory of Music, where he teaches composition, music technology, and theory. A Brooklyn-based composer and performer known as Hwarg in his musical alter-ego, he creates stylistically diverse works blending contemporary classical, electronic, rock, ambient, and sound art with political, visual, and theatrical elements. His focus on immersive audience experiences extends to collaborations with institutions like the Kaufman Music Center.

Kenty’s research emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to composition, integrating technology, environmental awareness, and hybrid operatic forms through projects like the Living Dying Opera with Ju-eh+Hwarg, as well as experimental rock work with The Benzene Ring. His music has been praised for its 'astonishing poetic power' and boundary-pushing innovation.
