Stephen Duncombe is Professor of Media and Culture at NYU's Gallatin School, where he researches media history and cultural politics. His work explores alternative media systems and cultural resistance strategies at the intersection of activism and artistic expression. He co-founded the Center for Artistic Activism, bridging creative practice with social change initiatives.
Duncombe has received multiple teaching honors including NYU's Distinguished Teaching Award (2020) and SUNY's Chancellor’s Award for Excellence (1998). His publications analyze how cultural production influences political movements, with notable works examining zine culture, utopian thought, and celebrity in historical contexts.
