Aviva Taubenfeld is an Associate Professor of Literature and Writing, and Director of the School of Humanities at Purchase College, SUNY. She holds a PhD in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University (2003). Her research focuses on US literature, immigration, ethnicity, and pedagogy. She has authored Rough Writing: Ethnic Authorship in Theodore Roosevelt’s America (2008) and is currently working on a book examining high school education debates through Progressive-era literature.

Research & Teaching Taubenfeld teaches courses on Childhood in US Literature, Immigration and Ethnicity, and pedagogy. She has led the Bedford Hills College Program for incarcerated women and was awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (2013). Her work explores translingualism, diasporic literatures, and the intersection of literature with national identity.
