Joel Friedman

Joel Friedman is a composer and Professor with Columbia University's Department of Music. His creative work spans classical composition, musical theater, opera, dance, film scoring, and cross-genre collaborations. Notable compositions include the Viola Concerto performed at Carnegie Hall and the musical 'Personals' staged in London's West End.

Friedman's current projects include commissions for string orchestra works, experimental chamber music theater, and electro-acoustic settings of Emily Dickinson's poetry. He teaches composition, music theory, and specialized courses on The Beatles, rock history, and musical theater. His compositions are published by Samuel French and Grey Bird Music.
