Paul Oberhammer is a Professor at the University of Vienna's Faculty of Law, Institute for Civil Procedure Law. Since 2011, he has held this position and has been Head of the Institute since October 2020. Prior to this, he held professorships at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (2001) and the University of Zurich (2003-2011).

His research focuses on civil procedural law, international civil procedural law, arbitration, corporate law, contract law, and property law, with a strong emphasis on legal history and comparative law across Austrian, German, Swiss, Liechtenstein, and European legal systems. His work has included contributions to Austrian arbitration law, notably chairing the working group that drafted the current Austrian arbitration law.
Paul Oberhammer is actively involved in academic and legal policy, serving as a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Academia Europaea, and various boards including the Association of Civil Procedure Law Teachers of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. He also acts as Of Counsel to Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr's International Arbitration Practice Group in London and serves as an arbitrator in international commercial proceedings.
