Paul Neilsen is the Head of College for Clinical Sciences at CQUniversity’s School of Health, Medical and Applied Sciences. He holds a PhD in Cancer Cell Biology from the University of Adelaide (2008) and has established the Sarcoma Research Group. His research focuses on cancer genetics, molecular pathogenesis of sarcomas, and drug discovery from natural products. He has published 33 articles (h-index 16, 916 citations), secured over $1M in grants (NHMRC, Cancer Australia), and led research centers in Malaysia. His administrative roles include Director of Graduate Studies at Swinburne University Sarawak Campus and Associate Director of Health Sciences.
Research Interests: Cancer biology, oncology, p53 pathway modulation, plant-derived therapeutics, and epigenetic drug development. He is accredited to supervise students in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, and Oncology.
Publications highlight contributions to anticancer drug screening, natural product isolation, and mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance. His work intersects plant chemistry with clinical oncology, particularly in designing novel therapies for sarcomas and lung cancer.
Awards include an NHMRC Career Development Fellowship (2014) and grants supporting his sarcoma research. Current teaching roles include coordinating units in clinical biochemistry, medical science research, and pharmacology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Labs/Teams: Founder of the Sarcoma Research Group; collaborates on projects involving natural product libraries, epigenetic drug screening, and molecular oncology at CQUniversity.
