Paul Lowry is passionate about advancing the field of trumpet pedagogy, emphasizing a deep understanding of trumpet literature by former pedagogues such as Arban, Stamp, Schlossberg, Clarke, and Vizutti. His teaching philosophy centers on helping students 'read' their sound to heighten awareness during self-guided practice. Mr. Lowry tailors his instruction to each student's unique personality traits, communicating trumpet fundamentals in ways that resonate with individual learners. His research interests span trumpet pedagogy, brass performance techniques, and the interpretation of trumpet literature across different historical periods.
As an active performer, Mr. Lowry has won numerous solo competitions including 1st prize at the National Music Teachers Association (NMTA) national brass competition and as a finalist, finishing as runner-up in the 2004 National Trumpet Competition. He has performed with several orchestras in the Chicagoland area including the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Milwaukee Ballet, and is involved as a chamber musician and recitalist performing throughout North America.
