Prof. Paul Klimpel holds an honorary professorship at Goethe University Frankfurt since June 2022. He studied law in Bonn and Munich, alongside philosophy, psychology, and social sciences at the Jesuit College of Philosophy. His career includes roles as administrative director at the Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek (2006-2011), managing director of the Netzwerk Mediatheken, and partner at the law firm iRights.Law since 2012. He leads the conference series 'Shaping Access! More Responsibility for Cultural Heritage' and pioneered key initiatives like the 'Berlin Appeal for the Preservation of Digital Cultural Heritage' (2013) and the 'Hamburg Note on the Digitisation of Cultural Heritage' (2015).
His work focuses on legal frameworks for digital cultural heritage, cultural policy, and ethical digitization practices. He has contributed to international committees and developed strategies for accessible cultural resources, emphasizing FAIR principles and counter-narratives in museum histories.
