PD Dr. Dr. Grischka Petri is a Research Associate at the Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure (FIZ Karlsruhe) in the Intellectual Property Rights department and a private lecturer in art history. He is a non-resident permanent Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Study ‘Access to Cultural Goods in Digital Change’ in Münster. His expertise spans intersections of law, art, and digital culture, with a focus on copyright, museum law, and access frameworks for cultural heritage.
He holds doctorates in law (doping sanctions) and art history (James McNeill Whistler’s career) and completed a habilitation in art history (history of copyright). He has held interim professorships at Cologne and Tübingen universities, taught at Bonn, Regensburg, and Basel, and was affiliated with the ‘Ethics of Copying’ research group at ZiF Bielefeld and the Käte Hamburger Centre ‘Law as Culture’ in Bonn.
Research interests include British art history, photography/printmaking theory, art-market law, Duckburg comic studies, and digital transformation of cultural access. His work critically examines how aesthetic transformations clash with legal and ethical norms. Recent publications explore NFTs, FAIR data principles, and legal frameworks for cultural heritage digitization.
