Marina Markellou is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Groningen, specializing in Intellectual Property Law and Cultural Heritage Law. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Montpellier/University of Athens and has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Poitiers. Her research focuses on intersections of art, law, and technology, including AI ethics, digital cultural preservation, and emerging tech's legal implications. She leads the AI TRACE project, exploring AI's role in digital arts, and advises on EU-funded projects like VIGILANT and MARINE-EO. Markellou is a member of the Research Ethics Committee of NCSR Demokritos, the International Society for Art and Cultural Heritage Law (ISCHAL), and the EUROPEANA Copyright Community Steering Group. Her work bridges legal frameworks, cultural rights, and technological innovation, addressing challenges in copyright law, ethical AI, and digital heritage accessibility.
