Paul Kim is an Adjunct Professor of Music History and Piano Studies and serves as the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Music at Long Island University (LIU Post), affiliated with the School of Performing Arts. He has been a faculty member since 1997 and has also taught at New York University, King's College, and Third Street Music School Settlement.
His academic background includes a B.M. and M.M. from Manhattan School of Music, an Artist Diploma from Centro Internazionale Perfezionamento Interpretazione Musica Firenze, and a Ph.D. from New York University. His mentors include renowned figures such as Gary Graffman, Paul Jacobs, and Olivier Messiaen.
Dr. Kim specializes in Historical Musicology, with a focus on the music of Beethoven, Messiaen, and Wagner, particularly in the 19th and 20th centuries. His research explores symphonic literature, piano transcription, and the spiritual dimensions of music. He is a leading authority on Olivier Messiaen, having completed a seven-CD anthology of the composer's complete piano works, widely recognized as a reference in Messiaen studies.
The publication and recording of his original piano transcriptions of all nine Beethoven symphonies represent a major ongoing project, reflecting his dual expertise in performance and musicology. His scholarly output includes liner notes, journal articles, and lectures that bridge analytical depth with artistic interpretation.
His recordings have received critical acclaim, including being named 'Best of 2005' by All Music Guide. He has presented lectures at institutions such as NYU, Dartmouth, and St. Joseph's College, and has performed internationally as a recitalist and chamber musician.

He is a Steinway Artist and active member of the American Musicological Society and College Music Society.
