Dr. Paul Harris is an Associate Professor in Applied Mathematics at the University of Brighton's School of Architecture, Technology and Engineering. He is affiliated with the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and the Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Devices. He holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Plymouth (Awarded 1990).
His research focuses on numerical methods for solving problems in applied mathematics, including boundary element methods, finite element methods, and mathematical biology. Key applications include fluid mechanics, acoustics, and biomedical engineering. He leads a project on biomimetic wound dressings funded by EPSRC (2022–2028), collaborating with experts in tissue engineering and medical diagnostics.
Recent work includes modeling spinal cord deformation dynamics, age-structured disease spread, and cell movement via chemotaxis. His publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches combining numerical analysis with biomedical and engineering challenges. Supervision interests include fluid-structure interaction, image analysis, and biomedical modeling.
Collaborations span international researchers in mathematical modeling and biomedical engineering. He has supervised four PhD students using numerical methods for applied problems.
