Paul Fisher

Paul Fisher is Professor of Clinical Psychology and Associate Dean for Apprenticeships at the University of East Anglia, based in the Norwich Medical School within the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychological Therapies. He also holds an adjunct appointment as Senior Lecturer at Sunway University, Malaysia, reflecting his international engagement in clinical psychology education and development.

His academic journey began with a BSc in Psychology from the University of South Wales (Cardiff) in 2001, followed by a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Plymouth (Bristol programme) in 2007. He has held progressive academic roles at UEA since 2013, advancing from Clinical Lecturer to full Professor in 2024. He has also held clinical roles in the NHS and in Singapore, focusing on older adult mental health and brain injury.

His research interests focus on professional practice, reflective practice, mindfulness, resilience, and self-care among clinical and trainee psychologists, primarily using qualitative methods such as Thematic Analysis and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. He has led the development of the MSc Clinical Associate in Psychology Degree Apprenticeship and contributed to the Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner programme.

His recent publications highlight trends in mental health training, wellbeing interventions, reflective practice, and the challenges of hybrid teaching post-pandemic. His work emphasizes qualitative insights into professional development, self-care, and educational innovation in clinical psychology.

Paul Fisher has supervised trainees and contributed to doctoral and postgraduate teaching at UEA. He has led curriculum development and accreditation processes and has been involved in national and international collaborations, including with the WHO.
