Professor Paul Elliott is a Chair in Epidemiology and Public Health Medicine at Imperial College London's Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics within the School of Public Health. He holds leadership roles as Head of Department and Director of the MRC Centre for Environment and Health, UK Small Area Health Statistics Unit (SAHSU), and several National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) programs. His research focuses on chronic diseases, particularly cardiovascular and cardiometabolic conditions, with emphasis on environmental and molecular epidemiology. Key contributions include the REACT study on pandemic surveillance, which earned him a CBE and Royal Society Fellowship.
Educated at the University of Cambridge and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, he holds an MBBS, MSc in Epidemiology, and a PhD. His affiliations include the UK Dementia Research Institute and the Climate and Health Network. Awards include the CBE (2021) and Royal Society Fellowship (2024).
Research spans environmental health, genetic influences on disease, and population health. Notable projects include the INTERMAP study on blood pressure genetics, COSMOS (mobile phone health risks), and the Health Data Research UK initiative on social determinants of health. His work integrates epidemiology with advanced analytics, addressing public health challenges like obesity, hypertension, and pandemic response.
