Professor Helen Ward is a Clinical Professor of Public Health at Imperial College London and a Consultant in Public Health at Imperial College NHS Trust. She leads the REACT study on long-term health impacts of the pandemic and directs the Imperial Patient Experience Research Centre, focusing on patient involvement in translational medicine. Her research addresses infectious diseases (HIV, STIs, SARS-CoV-2) and health inequalities through interdisciplinary approaches.
Dr. Ward holds degrees from the University of Sheffield (MBChB), the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (MSc Epidemiology), and City, University of London (PhD). She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Public Health, and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
Her research interests span epidemiology of infectious diseases, social determinants of health, and patient engagement strategies. She co-leads studies on HIV prevention equity, long-COVID outcomes, and pandemic behavioral responses. Her work integrates clinical, social, and genetic factors to address health disparities.
Key awards include fellowships from the Academy of Medical Sciences and Royal College of Physicians. She oversees Imperial’s Biomedical Research Centre Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives and collaborates with NIHR Applied Research Collaborations. Her grants include funding for the REACT program, MELODY studies on immunosuppressed populations, and global health education partnerships.
