Dr. Paul Eggleton is an Honorary Professor of Immunology at the University of Exeter Medical School and Vice President of Immunology at Revolo Biotherapeutics. With academic affiliations spanning University of Oxford, Boston University, and University of Alberta, he has led groundbreaking research in innate immunity, neuroinflammation, and chaperone protein immunobiology.
- Trained at Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine and Royal College of Surgeons
- Postdoctoral work: MRC Immunochemistry Unit (Oxford), Boston University
His work has redefined understanding of ER chaperones in immunomodulation, particularly calreticulin's extracellular functions in cancer cell death and autoimmune pathogenesis. He co-discovered the lectin pathway of complement activation and identified CD20+ T cell subsets in multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Current research at UCB Pharma and Revolo Biotherapeutics focuses on:
- Neuroinflammation in CNS disorders
- Immunomodulatory peptides like IRL201104
- Stress pathways (cGAS-STING) in neurodegeneration
Scientific contributions:
- MRC and ARC funded fellowships
- Over 200 peer-reviewed publications
- Key discoveries in calnexin-Fabp5 complex, CD200 regulation, and oxidative autoantigen modifications
His academic leadership included serving as Immunology Curriculum Lead (2008-2017) and establishing the 11th International Calreticulin Workshop. He supervises students like Emma Charlton and collaborates with teams across University of Alberta, Cambridge, and Oxford.
