Prof. Ted Feldpausch is a Professor of Terrestrial Ecology and Global Change at the University of Exeter's Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy. He also serves as Director of Postgraduate Research in Physical Geography and is affiliated with the Landscape and Ecosystem Dynamics group and Global Systems Institute. His research focuses on tropical forest and savanna ecosystems, particularly in Latin America, investigating drivers of vegetation dynamics, climate impacts on carbon cycles, and disturbances like fire and logging. He holds adjunct positions at Brazil's National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA) and UNEMAT.
Education:
- PhD in Forest Ecology and Soil Science, Cornell University
- MSc in Forest Ecology and Soil Science, Cornell University
- BSc in Plant Biology/Environmental Sciences, Michigan State University
Research Interests:
- Tropical forest response to climate change
- Soil carbon dynamics post-disturbance
- Fire ecology in Amazonia
- Savanna-tree diversity mechanisms
- Forest regeneration patterns
Grants & Projects: Leads the NERC-FAPESP Amazon PyroCarbon Project studying fire impacts on Amazonian soils. Active in global forest monitoring networks like RAINFOR and ForestPlots.
Advising: Supervises PhD students like Lorena Fleury (soil carbon in secondary forests) and Maurivan Pereira (post-fire forest dynamics).
Labs/Groups: Heads the Ted Feldpausch Research Group focusing on tropical forest-climate interactions, disturbance effects, and restoration ecology. Collaborates extensively with Brazilian institutions and global partners like USP and INPA.
