Paul DeFazio

Paul DeFazio is an Associate Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where he has taught since 2013. He holds an MS degree from Emmanuel College.

His expertise centers on criminal justice systems, with specific focus areas in corrections and policing. This specialization stems from his 35-year career in law enforcement, where he served as a U.S. Army Military Police Officer/Investigator, Corrections Officer, Deputy Sheriff, and Investigator Assistant Deputy Superintendent before retiring at the rank of Major from the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department in 2016.

DeFazio authored the novel PROS & CONS (High Pitched Hum Publishing, 2008), utilized in academic settings as an authentic depiction of correctional systems and criminal justice culture.
