Paul Brodwin is Professor of Anthropology and Adjunct Professor of Bioethics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, with research focusing on ethical dimensions of healthcare delivery.
Research examines:
- Moral decision-making in community psychiatry teams
- Structural inequities in mental health services
- Healing practices in Haitian diaspora communities
- Global health ethics and policy
Ethnographic fieldwork documents front-line providers' navigation of coercion, bureaucratic constraints, and therapeutic futility in assertive community treatment programs. Recent work analyzes jail diversion initiatives for severely mentally ill populations.
Board member of Grand Avenue Club psychosocial rehabilitation center and co-founder of Milwaukee Co-occurring Competency Cadre coalition. Recipient of NIH/NIMH funding for mental health services research.
