Dr Paul Barratt is a part-time Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Staffordshire University, affiliated with the Faculty of Health, Education, Policing and Sciences. He holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Hull (2009), where he also earned a First Class Honours BA in Human Geography (2002). His research focuses on cultural geography, environmental engagements, low-carbon transitions, and qualitative methodologies. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and has conducted impactful research on supply chain decarbonization and outdoor activity cultures.

His methodologies emphasize qualitative approaches, including interviews, participant observation, and NVivo analysis.
Publications & Awards: His research has appeared in journals like International Journal of Production Research and Social and Cultural Geography. He has received awards for academic excellence, including the Alan Patmore Prize (2002). His 2013 work on supply chain carbon reduction tools reflects his leadership in sustainability science.
Grants & Consultancy: Paul led projects for the Department for Education and Skills (e.g., Connexions Service cost analysis) and the Department for Trade and Industry (benefits of graduate employment in SMEs). He contributed to the Centre for Low Carbon Futures’ supply chain decarbonization initiative (2010-2012). His work bridges academia and industry, emphasizing practical sustainability solutions.
