Associate Professor Paul Alan Dawson is a distinguished academic and poet at the University of New South Wales, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the School of the Arts and Media. His work bridges narrative theory, creative writing, and contemporary fiction, with a particular focus on the interplay between authorship, narrative authority, and fictionality.

Research interests span narrative theory, history of the novel, and creative writing pedagogy. His monographs The Story of Fictional Truth (2023) and The Return of the Omniscient Narrator (2013) have redefined contemporary approaches to realism and postmodern experimentation.
Recent publications analyze social media narratives, political discourse, and conspiratorial storytelling, reflecting his engagement with digital culture. He co-edited the Routledge Companion to Narrative Theory (2022) and serves as President of the International Society for the Study of Narrative (2021-2024).
