Dr. Patty Thille is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba. She is also a Visiting Scholar at St John’s College. Her interdisciplinary work bridges physical therapy, sociology, and feminist theory, focusing on dismantling systemic discrimination in healthcare and rehabilitation.

Her research is rooted in critical physiotherapy and medical sociology, with a focus on uncovering discriminatory practices in clinical decision-making, knowledge production, and healthcare infrastructure. She employs qualitative, narrative, and arts-informed methods such as participatory theatre, working closely with marginalized communities. Her work is informed by feminist and anti-oppressive frameworks, aiming to transform care through social justice.
Dr. Thille is an active member of the international Critical Physiotherapy Network and is editing the 2025 anthology Inviting movements in physiotherapy: An anthology of critical scholarship. Her research is increasingly participatory and intersectional, engaging with communities affected by stigma, particularly around weight and disability.

She is currently accepting both Master’s and PhD students whose research aligns with her interests. Her cross-disciplinary approach includes collaborations across sociology, health sciences, and the arts, and she promotes innovative methods to challenge dominant paradigms in rehabilitation.
