Prof. Dr. med. Patrick Schweizer is a Professor and Medical Director at Heidelberg University, affiliated with the Department of Cardiology, Angiology, and Pulmonology. His roles include Senior Physician at the Heidelberg Center for Cardiac Arrhythmias and Deputy Working Group Leader of the Molecular and Translational Cardiac Electrophysiology Group. He holds leadership positions in multiple clinical and research institutes, including the Institute for Cardiomyopathies Heidelberg.
Education: He earned his medical degree from Heidelberg University (Ruprecht-Karls-Universität), completed a PhD in 2009 at the German Cancer Research Center, and habilitated in 2008. He has held postdoctoral fellowships at the Max-Planck-Institut für Medizinische Forschung and EMBL Heidelberg.
Research Focus: His work centers on cardiac arrhythmias, ion channel disorders, and genetic arrhythmia syndromes. Key areas include molecular mechanisms of arrhythmias, therapeutic targeting of ion channels, and translational research in electrophysiology. He leads studies on atrial fibrillation, short/long QT syndromes, and genetic cardiomyopathies.
Grants & Awards: Recipient of the ADUMED-Forschungspreis, Woldemar-Mobitz-Forschungspreis, and grants from the German Research Foundation (DFG). His lab focuses on clinical trials and preclinical models of arrhythmia management.
Labs & Collaborations: Active in the Molecular and Translational Cardiac Electrophysiology Group and collaborates with EMBL Heidelberg. His clinical practice includes managing the Outpatient Clinic for Genetic Arrhythmia Syndromes.
