Patrick Long serves as Dean of the School of the Arts and School of Humanities at Susquehanna University, where he is a Professor of Music. He holds a DMA from the Eastman School of Music and has over 80 compositions to his name, emphasizing live electronics and multimedia collaborations. His works have been performed internationally and featured in festivals like the Beijing Musicacoustica Festival. Long’s research focuses on composition, music technology, and percussion performance. He leads the Music Department, overseeing 13 faculty and 120 majors, and has developed innovative programs like the BM in Composition degree. Awards include the John C. Horn Award and multiple ASCAP recognitions. His discography includes seven commercial recordings, with an upcoming solo album. Long also performs in the rock band Faculty Lounge and consults on audio engineering projects.

Research interests span composition techniques, music technology integration, and interdisciplinary performance. His compositions often blend live instruments with interactive electronics, as seen in works like Chimera and Marimba Lumina. Over 20 of his pieces receive regular international performances. Long’s teaching includes composition, theory, and music technology courses. He has mentored numerous students now active in academia and the music industry, such as David T. Little (Princeton PhD) and Erin Graham (Eastman School of Music).
Grants and service include NASM accreditation leadership, curriculum development, and $350k in capital budget acquisitions for music facilities. His administrative roles include Department Head (2009–2012) and University Council member (2008–2014). Long maintains an active performance schedule as a percussionist and conductor, leading ensembles like the Susquehanna University Orchestra and collaborating with groups such as the Timaeus Ensemble.
