Patrick Jurney is the Kordestani Endowed Chair and Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at San José State University. His research focuses on cardiovascular biomaterials, endothelial cell regulation, nanoparticle drug delivery, and developing microfluidic platforms for studying thrombosis and hemostasis.
He directs the Jurney Lab, which engineers solutions to challenging problems in cardiovascular biomaterials and nanoparticle drug delivery. Current research includes developing microfluidic assays to study endothelial cell behavior under flow conditions and creating nanotopographical surfaces to enhance vascular graft endothelialization.
Jurney has received significant funding from NIH, American Heart Association, and W.M. Keck Foundation. Awards include Fellow of the American Heart Association (2024) and College of Engineering Faculty Award for Excellence in Scholarship (2024).
His lab currently mentors 11 undergraduate and 8 graduate students, with alumni employed at leading medical technology companies. Courses taught include Biological Microfluidics, Biotransport Phenomena, and Biomedical Device Manufacturing.
