Patrick Haggard

Prof Patrick Haggard is a Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London (UCL), where he leads the Action & Body research group. His work bridges the subjective experience of voluntary action and neural mechanisms underlying bodily self-representation.

Haggard's research in voluntary action investigates how brain processes translate intentions into manual movements, while his body representation studies explore how sensory inputs like touch and pain construct our physical self-model. These themes are examined through perceptual experiments and neurophysiological measurements to understand consciousness and agency.

The Action & Body group conducts interdisciplinary investigations into human action cognition and bodily self-perception, utilizing both behavioral paradigms and brain activity analysis to unravel fundamental mechanisms of self-awareness.
