Dr. Antonio Cataldo is a Lecturer in Psychology at Queen Mary University of London and an Honorary Lecturer at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, University College London. He holds affiliations in the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences and specializes in human somatosensory perception and sensorimotor integration.
Education: BSc in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Bologna (Italy), followed by a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL’s Action and Body Lab under Prof. Patrick Haggard.
Research interests focus on two core areas:
- Interactions between somatosensory submodalities (e.g., tactile, thermal, pain) using advanced techniques like robotic setups, electrotactile stimulation, and thermal/nociceptive paradigms.
- Sensorimotor foundations of spatial perception, particularly how self-touch informs brain models of space in healthy and clinical populations.
Grants/Awards: Secured a research grant from the John Templeton Foundation to investigate spatial properties of tactile systems. His work has been published in high-impact journals including Current Biology, iScience, and Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
Labs/Teams: Developed a robotic experimental setup for self-touch studies during his UCL tenure, continuing this work to explore clinical applications.
