Patricia Zunszain is a Professor of Multidisciplinary Mental Health Education at King's College London, affiliated with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) and the Department of Psychological Medicine. She holds leadership roles as Student Achievement and Academic Skills Lead, Academic Lead for Service-learning, and co-leads the Stress, Psychiatry & Immunology Laboratory. Her research bridges basic science and clinical outcomes, focusing on mental health education, neuroimmunology, depression mechanisms, and resilience.
Education: PhD in Organic Chemistry (Argentina), followed by postdoctoral work at University College London (Medicinal Chemistry) and Imperial College London (Biophysics). She joined the IoPPN in 2007 to integrate her expertise into translational research and education.
Research interests include the biological underpinnings of mental health, stress physiology, and translational neuroscience. She designs educational programs such as the 'Self-identity and intergenerational learning' Service-learning module and leads initiatives like Time to Thrive for student wellbeing.
Grants/Projects: Principal Investigator on MRC-funded 'Mind And Hormones' (2025–2026) and co-investigator on projects like 'Education for Mental Health' (OfS, 2019–2022). Collaborates internationally, including the Colombo Twin and Singleton Study in Sri Lanka.
Awards: Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Active in global initiatives addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals related to mental health and education.
