Patricia Olynyk

Patricia Olynyk is the inaugural Florence and Frank Bush Professor of Art at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, Washington University in St. Louis. She holds courtesy appointments in the School of Medicine, Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies, and Performing Arts, and is affiliated with interdisciplinary research hubs including the Institute for Public Health, Living Earth Collaborative, and Center for the Humanities.

• Education: Master of Fine Arts (California College of the Arts), with scholarships in Japan
• Research Focus: Interdisciplinary projects merging art, science, and technology, particularly in bioethics, medical humanities, and ecological art

Her multimedia installations explore human-body-environment relationships through collaborations with scientists and engineers. Recent projects include Black Swan in Three Variations (2024) and The Mutable Archive series (2020), examining memory and biological systems.

She has received prestigious awards such as the Helmut S. Stern Fellowship and R. D. Richards Memorial Faculty Award, and co-chairs the Leonardo/ISAST LASER Talks program in New York.
