Research Interests: Marechal's research bridges ancient ethical theory with contemporary philosophical debates. She investigates how ancient thinkers conceptualized the soul's role in moral development, analyzing Aristotle's virtue ethics, Plato's moral psychology, and Galen's integration of medical and philosophical ideas. Her work on non-human animals challenges modern anthropocentric assumptions by recovering ancient ethical frameworks. Recent projects emphasize the interplay between emotion, reason, and sociality in shaping moral agency.
Key Projects: She co-leads The Open Plato Project and co-organized the 18th West Coast Plato Workshop, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on classical texts. Her scholarship highlights the relevance of ancient thought to contemporary issues like bioethics and environmental philosophy.
