Verity Harte is the George A. Saden Professor of Philosophy and Classics at Yale University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Her expertise lies in ancient philosophy, particularly Plato and Aristotle, with a focus on metaphysics, epistemology, and moral psychology. She holds a BA in Classics and PhD in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge, and has held fellowships at St. Edmund’s College (Cambridge) and St. Hilda’s College (Oxford). Prior to Yale, she served as Lecturer and Reader at King’s College London. Her research explores topics such as Plato’s Philebus, dialectical knowledge, and the metaphysics of structure. She actively advises graduate students in Greco-Roman philosophy and has authored influential works like Plato on Parts and Wholes and co-edited volumes such as Rereading Ancient Philosophy. Her contributions span edited books, journal articles, and chapters analyzing ancient texts and concepts.
Recent publications include studies on Plato’s dialogues, Aristotle’s metaphysics, and Stoic interpretations of ancient philosophy. Her current projects include a monograph on Plato’s Philebus and explorations of memory, pleasure, and political theory in antiquity. Harte’s work bridges classical texts with contemporary philosophical debates, emphasizing comparative analysis of ancient thinkers.
