Patricia I. Oteiza, Ph.D. holds dual professorships in the Department of Environmental Toxicology and serves as the Mars-Endowed Chair in Developmental Nutrition at the University of California, Davis. As Vice Chair of her department, she oversees academic and administrative functions while maintaining her role as a Nutritionist in AES. Her research focuses on trace mineral effects on developmental processes and the health benefits of flavonoids.
Education: Oteiza earned three advanced degrees from the School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry at the University of Buenos Aires: M.S. in Clinical Chemistry, M.S. in Biochemistry, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry.
Research Interests:
- Trace mineral deficiencies/toxicities during development
- Flavonoid bioactivity, particularly (-)-epicatechin and procyanidins
- Oxidative stress mechanisms in metabolic and inflammatory diseases
- Nutrient-gene interactions in neurodevelopment
Article Trends: Recent work emphasizes flavonoid effects on metabolic syndrome, intestinal barrier function, and adipose tissue biology. Studies utilize animal models (rats/mice) and in vitro systems (cell lines like Caco-2 and 3T3-L1 adipocytes) to investigate mechanisms.
Grants & Advising: While specific grants aren't listed, her extensive publication record implies sustained research funding. No advisee names are provided in the text.
